Yalari was established in 2005. The founder, Waverly Stanley, is a recognised Indigenous educationalist. His Year 7 teacher paved the way for him to gain a scholarship at Toowoomba Grammar School, an experience he felt opened him up to opportunities. Consequently, he established Yalari, an organisation designed to facilitate Indigenous Education Scholarships. The Blackwood Foundation funded the scholarship of Aaliyah, to attend Geelong Grammar. The Foundation has been honoured to be part of Aaliyah’s life in following of her educational achievements and her enthusiastic involvement in art, theatre, and sport.
