PESA was established to be the peak association for the implementation of an evidence-based approach to wellbeing in schools and communities. The Blackwood Foundation became involved with PESA at its inception. The Foundation was part of the original delegation in 2016 to present positive education to the Upper Hunter. That same year the Foundation funded the employment of a staff member for six months. Simon Martin was elected to the PESA Board in 2020.
In 2024, funding was renewed in the area of supporting PESA programs.
